Wednesday 10th June 7.30pm Bradford University Student Union 1959-1966

An interesting & amazing event from a decade that shaped music… A good friend of old kindly lent us a collection of 59 original 45s that were bought on a weekly basis whilst a student at Bradford University 1959-1966. Student Union was very different to today – they arranged a record player for entertainment and spent social time listening to these very singles!

Enjoy these classic spins from the likes of Fats Domino, T-Bones, 4 Seasons, Brenda Lee, Manfred Mann, The Scaffold, Elvis, The Four Tops, Johny Tilotson, The Toys and many more great artists. A real archaeology of 59-66 through a group of students eyes.

We will spin these in traditional style on a 1960s Garrard AP75 turntable via a Leak Stereo 70 Amplifier then stream up to our mighty server in magnificent HQ Stereo.

We will spin all 59 of them with minimum chat, Zoom will be running so you can see the singles and labels plus a bit of introduction.

As always you are welcome to just log on to the Nidd streamer only at 7.30  if you just want to listen.

The event starts at 7.30pm prompt – lots of great music to enjoy! Places can be booked on our link below.

A few hours before the event you will receive a reminder email with the links to the HQ music server and a link to Zoom conferencing for the video presentation etc.

A Help to Listen tab is at the top of this homepage, you can learn more about how to listen and test the music streamer anytime.

Wednesday 3rd June 7.30pm We present Kate Bush - Hounds of Love

Hounds of Love is the fifth studio album by English singer-songwriter and musician Kate Bush released 16th September 1985. It was a commercial success and marked a return to the public eye for Bush after the relatively poor sales of her previous album, 1982's The Dreaming. The album's lead track Running Up That Hill became one of Bush's biggest hits. The album's first side produced three further successful singles Cloudbursting, Hounds of Love and The Big Sky’ The second side, subtitled The Ninth Wave, forms a conceptual suite about a person drifting alone in the sea at night.

Hounds of Love received critical acclaim both on its release and in retrospective reviews. It is considered by many fans and music critics to be Bush's best album and has been regularly voted one of the greatest albums of all time. It was Bush's second album to top the UK Album Chart  and her best-selling studio album, having been certified double platinum for 600,000 sales in the UK, and by 1998 it had sold 1.1 million copies worldwide. In the US, it reached the top 40 on the Billboard 200. The album was nominated at the 1986 Brit Awards for Best British Album, where Bush was also nominated for Best British Female and Best British Single (for "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)").

The fun starts at 7.30pm with Colin then we have a full profile from our “Professor of Pop” Graham Chalmers along with some video action from Jim Dobbs during playback of the album in full about 8.00ish. Between sides we have a quick trip to Mike’s audio den!

We put together a superb JVC turntable and Shure V15III Run via a magnificent Sony STR 6120 Receiver  . Then stream via our HQ Nidd server for you to enjoy. We run our dual platform audio stream and Zoom for the event.

If you just want to LISTEN ONLY without Zoom presentation we should begin playback of the album around 8.00pm - just be on the Nidd Streamer link for HQ audio above.
